Whilst the government plays political football with marriage equality, Clinton and Alex decided it was time - so they got legally married in the only place they can within Australia.
Clinton and Alex are lucky enough to take advantage of the loophole in Australia where a UK citizen can legally marry their partner within the British High Commission. Once outside however, they are deprived of the legal status and become de-facto partners in the eyes of Australian law.
Alex (originally from the UK) met Clinton in 1999 at a pub in Oxford. Clinton had been waiting for a date, when Alex showed up at the pub thirsty for a beer! The boys got chatting with the barman about whether they were going to see Star Wars Episode 1. They decided against it but then Alex offered to cook for Clinton if he bought tickets and as they say the rest is history.
After moving back to Australia and building a beautiful life together with two gorgeous children, Alex and Clinton decided to mark their 17th anniversary by tying the knot on Saturday, July 16th 2016. It all began on Thursday, where they exchanged vows at the British High Commission in Canberra, in a moving ceremony with a number of close friends and family including their two children.
Once the official ceremony had taken place they strolled through the property with their photographer Manuel Vicente for some mystical winter photos amongst the Australian red gums and deep blue wintery skies.
For us, it was a normal love story with so many people coming together to celebrate two amazing people who have made a lifelong commitment to each other. We loved capturing it and we just finalised their wedding album. We are sure when they receive it, their story will come to life just as it happened.
